New Proposal

After one failed trial with marigolds and another with california poppies, I realized it is quite hard to conduct this experiment during the winter. The low temperature outside wasn't suitable for the flowers, and the dry heat indoors absorbed too much water from the plants. So i decided to change my project into something similar.

Project Name:
Germination of Radiated Seeds

Background:
I tried my previous proposal and it did not work very well so i decided to change it. I heard Hailey and Cheryl are growing beans for their project. I thought the germination of beans would be much easier to grow and easier to observe the difference between each variable.

Purpose:

To see how microwaving plant seeds affect their the speed of their germination

Hypothesis:

If the soy beans were microwaved for 10 seconds, they will sprout earlier than all the other variables and the control. The beans that have been microwaved for 30 and 40 seconds will not sprout at due to the fact that they might be cooked in the microwave.

Control:
Beans that are not radiated.

Variable:

Beans that have to microwaved for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, and 40 seconds.

Materials:
- soy beans (yellow)
- see through cups x 5

Procedures:
  1. microwave:
  • 10 beans for 10 seconds
  • 10 beans for 20 seconds
  • 10 beans for 30 seconds
  • 10 beans for 40 seconds
  • leave the remaining 10 as the control
2. Label cups with labels stating the amount of time the seeds have been radiated
3. put beans in according cups and submerge in water
